Time is Flying!!!!

I can't believe it is already February 22nd.  I'm LOVING the class that I'm taking, but talk about information overload!!  I'll post more later this week about all the wonderful things that I'm learning.  I started another course last night.  What was I thinking taking two courses at the same time!  The second course is offered by my county and only has 5 sessions, but they take place after school from 4:30-7:30pm.  I really enjoyed the first class, but it sure was hard to get up out of bed this morning.

Twitter and My Online Class

The online class that I'm taking, Learning and Teaching with Web 2.0 Tools, is very interesting.  I've had to read some really good articles and interact with a wide variety of people.  I think that I've learned a lot so far.  One of the things that I've had to do this week is sign up for a Twitter account.  I had resisted signing up for a while.  I wasn't sure how this tool really worked.  So I'm going to go with the flow and see where Twitter takes me.  You can follow me @libraryjo92.  I'm not sure what I'm going to be tweeting, but I'm going to try.  If I can learn how to blog, I can learn how to tweet.J

Library Displays

I am SO glad that my Media Assistant is very creative.  Usually when I have to make "displays" for holiday books, etc. I'm not the most creative person.  Most times it consists of a sign and books in a basket.  Well my Media Assistant is truly the creative one.  Here are her two most recent displays for Valentine's Day and President's Day.  She is just wonderful!  My Library Media Center has never looked better!!!

My Wonderful Fifth Grade Class!!!

I have to brag about one of my Fifth Grades.  At the beginning of the year I asked my Fifth Grade Team, what I could help them research.  I was given an African American Biography Project.  I was not excited about doing a biography project.  So I had to figure out a way to get excited about it.  Well, I picked African American that the students might not be familiar with, such as Garrett Morgan, Bessie Coleman, and Mae Jemison.  The guiding/essential question for our project is the following:  In what way was the life remarkable?  Then instead of doing the standard power point or essay, I came up with a really neat and current way to present their information.  I had a Word template of a Facebook Page.  So they have to make a Facebook Page for their person.

Well, one of the Fifth Grade classes started on the Facebook Page yesterday.  I was blown away by my students!!  I thought the hardest part for them was going be coming up with a status (one sentence in their person's voice).  I was so impressed with some of the statuses.  One student who had Harriett Tubman wrote "Slaves are people too."  Another who had Jackie Robinson wrote "It doesn't matter what your race, as long as you get a good hit."  I was amazed that they could take the facts that they researched and actually turn those facts into statuses that their person really could have said.  It was such higher level thinking going on.  I was so proud of them!!  The next step is to respond in a "friends" voice.  I'll keep you updated!!

Much Better Week!

This was a better week!  I was sure it would be, but a part of me was scared that it wouldn't be.

I started my new online course and I'm really excited about it.  It is through Thinkport, called Learning and Teaching with Web 2.0 Tools.  I'm very excited about this course, but also a little nervous.  After reading the articles for session one I realize how much I don't know about Web 2.0 Tools.  I can't wait until we dive into looking at some tools.  I'm already thinking about what my final project can be.  I have an idea, but I have to see how the class goes.
Not that I need more to do, but I signed up for another course during this time.  It is only a 5 session course and I earn one credit, but it is from 4:30-7:30.  Of course, four of the sessions take place on Wednesdays, which is my busy day.  Luckily a friend of mine is taking the course too.  So I won't have to be there by myself.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
