It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This meme was started by Sheila at Book Journey and the kids' version borrowed from the wonderful ladies at Teach Mentor Texts.

I did quite a bit of reading over the weekend.  I read The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan.  I was really glad I reread The Throne of Fire because there were some characters had needed a bit of a reminder about.  See my post below for my thoughts on this great book.

I was still on my Jennifer Holm reading frenzy.  I read two more Babymouse graphic novels.  I still can't get enough of Babymouse.  Such a great character!!!  I also read The Trouble with May Amelia.  This was a sequel to Our Only May Amelia.  I have just fallen in love with May Amelia!  She is such a strong vibrant female character.  I've got some girls that I think will really love her.  I can't wait to share May Amelia with them next year!  I think I can't say anymore that I'm not a fan of historical fiction.  I realize now, I just wasn't reading the right historical fiction books.  Thanks to my friends on Twitter, I've come up with a huge list of historical fiction books that I love!

I picked up a book while I was at the library this weekend, Dying to Meet You (43 Old Cemetery Road) by Kate Klise.  This book is about an author with writer's block who moves into a run-down house complete with a child, a cat, and a ghost.  It is not told in chapters, but by letters and newspaper articles.  I really enjoyed it and all the puns.  I can't wait to read more of the series!

My reading for this coming week, another Jennifer Holm book:  Middle School Is Worse Than Meatloaf, and Born to Fly by Michael Ferrari.  I also plan to read a few picture books that I checked out at the library.  I also plan to get caught up on my Google Reader posts.  The last time I checked, I was up to 218 unread posts!!  I've got some reading to do!!

I achieved my goal of posting three time last week.  I'm going to challenge myself to have the same goal again.

Happy Reading!!

  2. When the first one in the Kane Chronicles came out, I didn't like it too much. When the second one came out I reread the first and couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it this time around. I think that when I read it the first time, it was too close to my reading of the Percy Jackson series. Hope you enjoy the Kane Chronicles!

  3. I'm trying to mix it up a big with some classics. I'm reading Hemingway's A Moveable Feast.

  4. I still have only read the first of the Kane Chronicles. I do want to eventually finish the trilogy though. I really like Riordan's writing, although I feel like his books keep getting longer than they truly need to be.

Doesn't Jennifer Holm write the best characters? Babymouse is my favorite but May Amelia isn't far behind. Yay for being won over by good historical fiction!

  5. I've been hearing a lot about "Middle School Is Worse Than Meatloaf" - so I'll be looking out for your review. Don't you just love the title, though? Awesome!

  6. May Amelia is fun! I really enjoy Jenni Holm's books. Did you know a book told through letters and other documents is called an epistolary? I love bookish words like that. :) You got a lot of reading done! And great work on the posting three times during the week!
