It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I was on vacation from July 2nd until July 17th.  My family and I went to New Hampshire first to visit good friends of ours.  We stayed with them for eight days and had a wonderful time!  We don't get to see each other very often and it is a whole lot of fun when we do!!  During this time I was reading more grown-up books because I downloaded them to my e-reader.  I don't like downloading kid books because many times, what I purchase becomes a part of my school library collection.  Some of the grown-up books I read were:  Red Velvet Revenge by Jenn McKinlay, Grace Among Thieves by Julie Hyzy, Afraid to Die by Lisa Jackson, The Busy Woman's Guide to Murder by Mary Jane Maffini, and Slightly Irregular by Rhonda Pollero.  (If you can't tell, I LOVE mysteries!!)  I highly recommend each and everyone of these books and the series that they belong to.

While I was on vacation Babymouse for President by Jennifer and Matt Holm was published, so I had to get my hands on it!  I was not disappointed at all by this book.  I loved it!  Can't wait to share it with my students next school year!  I also picked up One for the Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.  I had been hearing all the chatter on Twitter about it, so I had to buy it too.  I was blown away how powerful and emotionally invested I became in this book!  I needed quite a few tissues during this book, especially at the end.  If you haven't read this book, run don't walk to the library and check it out!!

When I got back from vacation I had to reread Wonder by R.J. Palacio for the Twitter Book Club talk.  Once again this book brought me to tears.  But I just loved rereading it.  I also had gotten from Mr. Schu, a copy of Capture the Flag by Kate Messner.  I was only going to read a few chapters and then begin to unpack from my trip.  Well I couldn't put the book down until I was finished with it.  It was a mystery and I just love mysteries.  I've got quite a few kids in mind who will love this book!

Up next for me is to get back reading for my Goodreads Challenge and for Round 2 of the #Summerthrowdown.  I am just waiting for my wonderful League of Librarians t-shirt, designed by Jarrett J. Krosoczka.  I think the next chapter book on my plate is Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead.  Once again, I've heard great things about this book on Twitter.  I haven't been disappointed yet by the recommendations I've gotten from Twitter, so I have high hopes!

Happy Reading!!

  1. I love, love, loved One For The Murphys (and of course, Wonder). I'm so thankful for all of my #nerdybookfriends on Twitter. I've learned about so many amazing books over the past four years or so. Of course, that's not so great for my bank account!

  2. So many great reads! I love Wonder, and I'm patiently waiting for One For the Murphy's from my library.
I've seen a lot of talk about Liar & Spy as well, so I've added that one to my to-read shelf.
    Happy reading week!

  3. My son couldn't put down Capture the Flag either. He loved it.

Liar and Spy sounds interesting... I'll have to add that to my to-buy pile.

  5. Liar & Spy is so good! If you are at all a Rebecca Stead fan, I think you will love it! I can't wait to read One for the Murphys. I ordered it for my library, but it hasn't come in yet. I need to look into some of those mysteries you read too. That's my favorite genre!

  6. One For The Murphys is in my book bag, but I passed it up to read Kate Messner's Eye of The Storm, as I was just rolling off of The Fault in Our Stars (also very emotional!). I can't wait to read Capture the Flag . . . it sounds like kids will love that! As an adult mystery lover, have you read any of Tana French's books? Can't wait to get my hands on her latest.

  7. Notforlunch, I haven't tried any of Tana French's books. I'll have to look her up.

Hannahlily, make sure you have your tissues handy for One for the Murphys!! I just love all of the mysteries I wrote about. They are ones that I make sure I get as soon as the new one comes out.

  8. Hmm. I love a good murder mystery as well and I'm not familiar with any of those! Was just commenting on another blog how I need to get Capture the Flag read because we are hosting the author for a visit. And I know I need to read One for the Murphys.

Oh. I just saw your comment. Tana French is pretty good. I saw a writeup about her new one in the paper yesterday. I just like reading about Ireland. Was there once and would love to go back!

  10. Sounds like a great trip! You got tons of reading done!!! And now you're back and it looks like you have more great reading ahead of you. Capture the Flag and Liar and Spy were both great. I'm looking forward to One for the Murphy's!

  11. I read One for the Murphys this past week. It's one of those books where you so desperately want the ending to be different...but it wouldn't be the amazing book it is if it was. I completely fell in love with Carley and the Murphy family.

(Also, don't you wish you could write like that?)
