I can hardly believe that it is Monday again!! I hit the ground running last week because I was coming back from Spring Break and having to make sure everything was ready for Book Fair to start on Thursday. To say the least, I've been stressed. As a result, I haven't been doing a lot of reading. I've been doing a lot of rereading. See my post below. It's because of the Book Fair that I'm doing most of my rereading. Good thing that I like all the books that I'm rereading.
I'm still rereading The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. I'm rereading this in preparation for the third in the series which is published on May 1st. I also want to read One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia. It's a historical fiction book that sounded interesting. Click here to go to a description of the book on www.goodreads.com. (If you haven't found Goodreads yet, it is a wonderful site and you should check it out.)
Last week I read No Passengers Beyond This Point by Gennifer Choldenko and Glory Be by Augusta Scattergood. I enjoyed both for different reasons. No Passengers Beyond This Point is one of the few books that I can say, that the ending took me totally by surprise! I like when a book can still surprise me. Glory Be is a great introduction to the racial issues that our country has had to deal with. It touches on the issues without getting too in depth or to vivid.
Happy Reading! Feel free to share what you are reading or your thoughts about the few books.
Hopefully this week will be calmer, so that I can post a little bit more.

After seeing "No Passengers" on blogs both last week and this week, I think I need to move it up in my TBR pile. It looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteI read ONE CRAZY SUMMER last summer and loved it. I would love, at some point, to teach a history course using children's literature as my text books. I'm looking forward to GLORY BE!
ReplyDeleteI've read a few of Choldenko's books but not No Passengers. I love good endings! Will have to check it out. I thought Glory Be was exactly what you said, a great book about Freedom Summer but also a good introduction to that time period while not being too in depth. One Crazy Summer left me feeling like I wish I had known more about the Black Panthers before reading so I feel like if I was giving it to a child I would want to give them some background knowledge first. I'm curious to hear what you think.
ReplyDeleteAND hooray for rereading!
I felt exactly like Jen when reading One Crazy Summer. It's really a great story, but I wished I knew more about the Black Panthers before I read it. I love Rick Riordan's books! They are so entertaining, although I feel like each book is now getting longer than it needs to be. Can't wait to read Glory Be!
ReplyDeleteThose last two books sound wonderful, and I've alsways found so much to appreciate in Choldenko's books! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNo Passengers Beyond this Point sounds like an interesting read. I haven't heard about it much, but now I am going to take a look.
ReplyDeleteA book with a totally surprise ending...I'll have to add it to my TO READ pile. Thanks for sharing.

I really love your book list and have added some to my "to be read" list as well. I hope your book fair is a hit and you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI will have to add No Passengers to my TBR. It sounds intriguing and I have enjoyed her books in the past. I loved One Crazy Summer. I still haven't started the Red Pyramid. The books in that series are kind of daunting in size. I need to get over that. :)
ReplyDeleteOOH I didnt know the Red Pyramids third book was coming out already! YAY!!!
